Thinking Lab Launch

Some questions cannot be solved by simply remembering the right answer.
Thinking Lab invites students to slow down, notice what others may overlook, reconsider assumptions, connect ideas, and investigate possibilities.
The challenge is not simply to reach an answer. It is to understand how evidence, reasoning, patterns, and different perspectives can lead to stronger conclusions.
Students learn to ask better questions and think through problems that may have more than one possible solution.
Your Mission
Students will investigate a challenging question or problem by examining information, identifying patterns, comparing possibilities, and testing their reasoning.
They may:
analyze evidence;
recognize patterns and relationships;
explore different possible solutions;
question assumptions;
make decisions based on available information;
connect ideas across different subjects;
explain and defend their conclusions.
The goal is not simply to complete an activity.
The goal is to think.
This approach follows Fredyn’s broader Mission model, where students observe, question, analyze evidence, connect ideas, solve problems and communicate what they discover.
Why This Matters
Real-world problems rarely arrive with a worksheet, a single correct method, or an answer printed at the bottom of the page.
Students need opportunities to think when information is incomplete, possibilities compete, and evidence must be interpreted.
Thinking Lab develops habits that can travel far beyond one subject: creative thinking, analytical reasoning, problem solving, evidence-based decision-making, adaptability, communication, and the ability to make connections across disciplines.
The question may change.
The thinking travels with them.
Everyone has a role
Investigator
Ask questions and identify what needs to be figured out.
Analyst
Examine evidence, patterns, possibilities, and competing ideas.
Researcher
Gather useful information and perspectives.
Recorder
Document observations, reasoning, and discoveries.
Mission Planner
Help organize the team’s approach to the challenge.
